About Bishop's Boxers

Welcome to our blog!

We have been a Boxer-loving family since 1987. Our love for the breed began with our first boxer, Chesty. Purchased from a California pet store, Chesty was extremely intelligent and trained closely with military police dogs, becoming highly skilled in search and rescue.

After losing Chesty to cancer and knowing we didn't want to experience life without Boxers, we purchased a striking 8-month-old fawn male Boxer from Crossroad Boxers in California. We named him Bishop. Little did we realize that he would be the beginning of our kennel, Bishop's Boxers.

Bishop participated in many dog shows while we had time in graduate school, but then came four children and 16 years of active duty military life. Having the desire to have a puppy from Bishop and the determination to uphold and improve the standard of the Boxer breed, we bred Bishop and kept a puppy, Lady, from the litter in February of 2005. Lady produced two wonderful litters of puppies with Telstar Boxers. We continued our breeding program with Telstar Boxers and Eve, Lady’s daughter, until we retired from the military in 2016.

As we transitioned back into civilian life, we paused our breeding program for nearly five years and are pleased to introduce our two new Telstar females, Callie and Prancer. Our goal at Bishop’s Boxers is to be dedicated to breeding and raising healthy, beautiful dogs with affectionate temperaments and sound structure in accordance with the AKC Boxer breed standard. The health and well-being of all our animals from birth until they leave with their forever family--and beyond--is critical to us. We utilize current recommended health tests before breeding to provide our puppies the best opportunity for a long, healthy life.

Our puppies are raised by our family with children and other dogs. They play an active and very important role in caring for, preparing, and socializing the puppies for their future families. As a result, the puppies leave our home with a clear advantage in adapting and transitioning to their new families.

Puppies are 5 Weeks Old!

If you think the puppies look a lot bigger this week, you are right! Now that they are eating puppy food, they have nearly doubled in size. We have puppies available! Contact us for more information.

Puppy Cam 8/22/14

My kids love these puppies, and they play an integral part in socializing them. That way, when they leave our home, they are very accustomed to being with children. "Puppy time" is a reward (and incentive!) for cleaning up the puppy box.

Chow Time!

The puppies got their first taste of puppy food tonight, and they seemed to enjoy their feast. The first meal is usually a pretty messy one, but they eventually get neater.

Puppies are 4 Weeks Old!

I'm not sure where the last month went; it's hard to believe these cute puppies are already a month old!  Over the weekend, we moved them into the much larger weaning box, which is more like a fortress. It allows them a much bigger, safe place to play. Their little, sharp puppy teeth have emerged, and although they sleep most of the day, they are playing much more with each other.  This week, they will begin to transition to puppy food; mom's milk can only sustain them for so long.

Puppies will be able to go to their new homes in 4 short weeks, and we still have puppies available. Contact us for more information!

They got their first breath of the outside air this morning (it was a little bright for a couple of them, so they squinted). Here are their 4 week photos.

Puppies are 3 Weeks Old!

The puppies are growing rapidly and are getting very playful with each other. They also like to use their newly discovered voices, especially first thing in the morning, and just before bedtime. Since they will soon be outgrowing their whelping box, they will probably be moved to the big weaning box this weekend, until they leave for their new homes. It's pretty plush and roomy (about 4 feet by 9 feet and air conditioned too!) and it gives them a larger place to play with each other, but keeps them safe too. Here are their 3 week pictures. We are looking for great homes for 3 white/white check females, and one male and one female (fawn/brindle).  Please contact us soon if you are interested!

Now that the puppies are older, our kids love "puppy time," where they get to sit and hold the puppies. Of course, protective mom Eve is never far away!

Puppy Cam 8/9/14

The puppies ears opened this week, so now with eyes and ears, they are mobile and vocal! They are showing the first signs of playing together.

Puppy Cam 8/5/14

I was able to catch a couple puppies when they were a little more awake today. Kailua and Aloha were the only ones really alert and they seemed a little perturbed that the others weren't awake to play.

Rest for Growing Puppies

What do the puppies do all day?  At this stage, not much. Eat, sleep, eat, sleep...
Here they are in typical fashion. Sometimes they twitch or bark while they dream. But in the next week, they will want to pull their bellies up and start walking, especially now that their eyes are open.

Boxer Puppies are 2 Weeks Old!

As anticipated, all the puppies opened their eyes (at least most of the way) this week. Now that they can look me in the eyes, they seem to have their own personalities. Cute? Definitely. Next week, watch for them to move around more now that they can see! We have a male and female (fawn/brindle), and three white/white check puppies available to go to loving homes. Here are their 2 week pictures.

Aloha is a special little one, who is sure to steal anyone's heart. She has a cleft lip, which will require surgery to repair it. She is expected to live a very normal boxer life.

The huddle!

Our first boxer Chesty. He wasn't the most beautiful boxer, but certainly well-loved!
