New Names

It was a pleasure to meet most of our new owners over the weekend. We love knowing our puppies will be well cared for and loved immensely.  Each has a new name, which we have begun using.  Rolo is now Teddy, Hershey is now Bailey, M&M is now Ruby, and Snickers is now Brightman.  They gave me a cute pose this afternoon!

Nothing like the aroma of steaming dog food permeating your home! 

Now that they have teeth (sharp ones!), we no longer need to blend their food, but we do completely soften it with hot water so they can eat it easily.  They eventually won't need it so soft, but we do highly recommend that you always soften dog food with a little hot water.  Choking on dog food is a common problem, especially among puppies, and it can easily result in death. Although this is a flat and wide dog bowl from which they all eat, we recommend the 2 Quart Durapet Bowl - Stainless Steel - SS295QB (Google Affiliate Ad) for your use at home. It's dishwasher safe, and avoids slipping and sliding across the floor.

Early Crate Training

Crate training is an essential part of training your new puppy.  It provides a safe and comfortable home of it's own, and prevents damage (well, more like total destruction) of your home while you are away. We introduced the small crate today so the puppies see it as a "normal" part of life.  With the door off, and a cozy mat inside, they can come and go as they please. As you can see, they made themselves right at home.

Today, Maddie was taking a break from her pups and made herself at home on the Dora couch. Our little one was a bit confused by her presence...

so she gave up and joined her!

After breakfast this morning, they decided to clean each other up. Too cute not to share!

The Grass is Always Greener

It was a nice day outside today, so we took the puppies out for the first time to get a little fresh air and some grass between their paws.  Maddie tried to egg them on a little and play, and they had some fun with each other. They'll get regular outside time on warm days over the next couple weeks.

And I got nibbled and kissed by the little ones too. They are so much fun. They are always part of our family, even though they will have loving families of their own.

Chow Time

The puppies had their first meal besides mom's milk last night. We use Eukanuba Puppy food, blended with hot water (so it's like baby food consistency), and add a dollop of full fat (4%) cottage cheese for enticement. They seemed to be pretty happy with it.

After they are finished, it is usually playtime.

Our little darlings are so much fun and getting bigger by the day. Here they are, now 1 month old.  We have 1 Male and 1 Female available to go to loving homes in 4 more weeks. Puppies will be able to be seen February 9. Please contact us if you would like to see them in person.

Moved to the Mansion

Now that our little ones are getting more adventurous and nearly climbing out of the whelping box, we moved them into the weaning box. It gives them much more room to roam and play safely, and more time for us to get a puppy fix!

Play Time

The puppies are now 3 weeks old and are beginning to play with each other.  They nip at each other's ears, backs, noses, and tails and sometimes bark and howl at each other. Here is a little glimpse into their world.

Puppies are 2 Weeks Old

The puppies are cruising around now that their eyes are open. Compared to last week's pictures, it looks like they've doubled in size! All are doing very well.  They sleep most of the day since their little bodies are growing so quickly.  In just a few weeks, they will be playing around with each other.  We have 1 male puppy available to be placed in a loving home (which male is to be determined).  Please contact us soon if you are interested!

First Puppy Steps

Now that the puppies are 2 weeks old and can see, they quickly learned to get up and take their first steps.  We find them quite entertaining!

Our youngest got to hold Snickers on her lap for the first time tonight. We have 4 children, who love the dogs immensely, so by the time the puppies leave our home, they are very familiar with kids.

Puppies Are 1 Week Old

Our little canine crew is growing like weeds!  With plenty of mom's milk to drink, they are getting pretty plump.  Their eyes are just starting to open, and they are scooting around easily.  Here are their week-old pictures:

Just Hangin' with Mom

A Mother's Work is Never Done

Feeding, cleaning, feeding, cleaning...it never ends for this mom, but she's very attentive to the needs of her pups.

They took their first car ride to Telstar Boxers yesterday, where Jennifer Tellier cropped their tails and removed their dewclaws.  They did great!

Maddie and Her Puppies

We started our morning off saying our goodbyes to Milky Way.  Even though she was only a day old, it was a heart-wrenching experience for us and the kids.  That's one of the difficult calls you have to make as a breeder.

On a lighter note, the puppies and getting plump!  In the below video, you can see them in day-old puppy action with mom.  They squeak, squeal, and twitch while they dream away after some warm milk in their bellies (that's Snickers on top of everyone else eating).  Maddie's big sigh towards the end indicates all is well.

Introducing Our "Sweet" Little Puppies

Maddie continues to be a great mom to these puppies. Unfortunately, Milky Way, the white female, has a medical problem and is not expected to live, and that breaks our hearts.  For that reason, you will not see her picture here.  But the others are already thriving.  Check back for weekly photos of their growth!

Happy New Year and 4--No, Make That 5 (Surprise!) Happy New Puppies

Maddie had an easy and quick delivery of her 5 puppies beginning at 5 a.m. today.  Final score: 3 girls, 2 boys.  There was a little guy hiding in that x-ray that was not seen! She is a great mom!  Check back for more pictures later today.

Maddie is feeling pretty plump.  Lying in the same box she was born in 2 years ago, she's still calm and as comfortable as she can be.

Better in Pairs

In case you were wondering, we always say that boxers do best in pairs.  They have a constant companion to play and snuggle with (well, it's more like on top of each other) as seen below. Bruiser, on bottom (from our last litter, formerly known as Vixen) and his best friend Dusty share the family couch for a snooze.  Boxers have such great temperaments and personalities!  Thanks to Bruiser and Dusty's loving owner, Todd, for the photo. We love to keep in touch with our boxer families to see how they are doing!

2 More Weeks!

We are looking forward to puppies arriving in 2 weeks!  Next week (the 26th), Maddie will be having an x-ray to see how many little ones we can expect on (or about) January 2.  We'll keep you posted!

Litter Update

Looks like Maddie is progressing nicely in her pregnancy with a bigger appetite and a fuller belly.  We hear that there are not many boxer puppies available or arriving soon, and have had several inquiries about the upcoming litter.  Contact us soon to be on our waiting list.  4 weeks to go!

A New Year, a New Litter!

Good News! Maddie was bred to Henry from Telstar Boxers (click here to visit Telstar's website) October 31. We are looking forward to having a new litter of puppies on (or about) January 2, 2013.  Maddie is from Lady's second litter and is one of the sweetest dogs. We called her Prancer (you can see more puppy pictures of her if you scroll down the blog).  If you are interested in a puppy from Maddie, please contact us to be placed on the interest list.  As always, we will keep the blog updated so you can follow the litter.

Always Part of the Family

You can always count on the Boxer to be right in the middle of your life. That includes in between your legs in the kitchen, at your dinner table (just in case you forgot to set a place for him), and just relaxing on a summer afternoon. Here, Eve makes a great head and foot rest for our daughter. Our kids can hardly wait for puppies again--hopefully coming in a few months!
